Nine Arrested After Mob Attacks Cattle Transporters And Police In Telangana Ahead Of Bakrid
Mob attacks cattle transporters, police in Telangana before Bakrid
Ahead of Bakrid, a group of people allegedly attacked cattle transporters and police personnel in the Saroornagar area of Hyderabad, Telangana, on Tuesday night, prompting police action and the arrest of nine individuals. Authorities said the incident occurred after a vehicle carrying eight bulls was stopped by a mob acting on suspicion that the animals were being transported for slaughter ahead of the festival.
According to police officials, the cattle were not being taken for slaughter but were being transported along with their owners for a film shoot at Purani Haveli in Hyderabad. Despite clarification, the group allegedly confronted the transporters, used abusive language, and physically assaulted them, escalating tensions in the area.
Police said teams rushed to the spot after receiving information and attempted to bring the situation under control. However, the situation worsened when the bulls were later being shifted safely to a goshala for protection. The mob reportedly followed the vehicle on motorcycles, blocked its movement, and began throwing stones, resulting in injuries to several police personnel, including an inspector. The vehicle carrying the animals was also damaged in the attack.

Malkajgiri Commissioner of Police B. Sumathi said swift police intervention helped prevent the situation from escalating further. She stressed that taking the law into one’s own hands based on rumours or assumptions was unacceptable and urged citizens to immediately report suspected illegal activity to authorities instead of resorting to violence.
Police have registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to rioting, assault, and attacking public servants. The nine arrested accused were produced before a court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody, while efforts to identify and apprehend others involved are ongoing.
Authorities also said enhanced security measures have been put in place ahead of Bakrid, including round-the-clock police check-posts across the commissionerate limits to monitor cattle movement and maintain law and order. Officials warned that strict action would be taken against anyone attempting to incite violence or obstruct police duties during the festive period.
