Night Heist at DGP’s Lucknow Home: Robbers Escape With Cash and Glitter
Police in Lucknow are probing a burglary at ex-Karnataka DGP Mahendra Kumar Srivastava’s home, where cash and jewellery were stolen.
The residence of former Karnataka DGP Mahendra Kumar Srivastava in Lucknow’s Aliganj area was burgled between October 21 and 25, with thieves making off with ₹2 lakh in cash and a substantial collection of jewellery. The theft was discovered on the morning of October 26 when Srivastava’s wife returned from a relative’s home and found the house ransacked. The stolen items included eight bangles, 11 chains, two lockets, two diamond sets, five pendants, and other valuables, according to the FIR filed at Aliganj police station.
Lucknow Police have registered a case under Sections 305 (theft in a dwelling house) and 331(4) (house trespass with intent to commit theft) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The family was away during the incident, which occurred around midnight, and no signs of forced entry were immediately reported. Forensic teams have collected evidence, and CCTV footage from the neighbourhood is being examined to identify the perpetrators.
The burglary has raised concerns about the safety of senior officials’ residences, even in upscale localities. Srivastava, who served as Karnataka’s Director General of Police, had been using the Lucknow property as a secondary home. Local police have intensified patrolling in the area and are coordinating with neighbouring districts to trace the stolen items, which may surface in the black market.
