Netanyahu Says Iran-US Ceasefire Fragile, Supports US Naval Blockade Decision

Netanyahu warns Iran-US ceasefire fragile, backs Trump’s naval blockade amid Strait of Hormuz tensions.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday warned that the fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran could collapse “at any moment,” citing concerns raised by Washington over Tehran’s alleged failure to uphold key terms of the agreement.

Speaking at the start of a cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said he had been briefed by US Vice President JD Vance following recent talks with Iran held in Pakistan. According to Netanyahu, the United States believes Iran did not comply with the understanding to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz after hostilities were paused.

Netanyahu stated that the ceasefire arrangement required Iran to halt military activity and immediately allow maritime passage through the Strait. He said Washington viewed Tehran’s actions as a “blatant violation” of the agreement, adding that the US could not accept restrictions on such a critical global trade route.

The Israeli leader also highlighted that the core concern for the United States remains Iran’s nuclear programme. He said Washington is focused on eliminating enriched nuclear material and preventing further uranium enrichment within Iran for an extended period, possibly spanning decades.

Backing US President Donald Trump, Netanyahu expressed support for the decision to impose a naval blockade on Iranian ports. He emphasised that coordination between Israel and the United States is at an unprecedented level, dismissing reports of any rift between the two allies.

Netanyahu added that the current level of strategic alignment and daily communication between Israeli and US leadership is unlike anything seen before. He maintained that both countries remain closely united in their approach to Iran, even as uncertainty continues to surround the durability of the ceasefire agreement.
