Naxals Kill Man Suspected of Being Police Informant

Suspected informer killed; another murder rocks Sukma.

A chilling wave of violence gripped Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region as Naxalites hacked a man to death in Bijapur district, suspecting him of being a police informer, authorities reported. The gruesome killing of Madkam Bheema occurred late Wednesday night in Pujarikanker village under Usoor police station limits, marking yet another tragic episode in the Maoist insurgency plaguing the region.

According to police, a group of Maoists stormed Bheema’s home, dragged him outside, and brutally killed him with a sharp-edged weapon after accusing him of collaborating with law enforcement. A police team rushed to the scene Thursday morning after receiving alerts, confirming the murder. This incident pushes the toll of Maoist-related violence in the seven-district Bastar division to 38 this year, underscoring the persistent threat in this volatile region.

In a separate but equally disturbing incident, 55-year-old Rava Sona was murdered the same night in Saltong village, under the Naxal-affected Kistaram police station in Sukma district. Unidentified assailants lured Sona out of his home, beat him savagely with sticks, and strangled him to death. While no Maoist pamphlets were found at the scene, police are investigating all angles, including potential Naxal involvement, given the area’s history of insurgent activity.

The twin killings highlight the ongoing challenge of curbing Maoist violence in Chhattisgarh, where suspicion of informant activity often leads to brutal reprisals. Authorities have intensified patrols and are probing both cases to bring the perpetrators to justice, as local communities reel from the escalating violence.
