Mumbai Police Arrest Man in Minor Rape Case

Mumbai police have apprehended a 23-year-old man accused of raping and impregnating a 15-year-old girl from Odisha’s Ganjam district, following a zero FIR filed in Berhampur. The arrest, made by Parksite police on Thursday, stems from a case that has sparked outrage due to the horrific ordeal faced by the young victim.
The case came to light on July 28 when Berhampur’s Baidyanathpur police responded to a medico-legal complaint from MKCG Medical College and Hospital, where the girl was admitted. Medical examinations revealed the minor was 19 weeks pregnant and sought to terminate the pregnancy. During questioning, she disclosed living in Mumbai with her parents for 14 years. In March, the accused allegedly dragged her to his home and raped her, leading to her pregnancy.
The victim confided in her mother, who confronted the accused’s family, only to face threats of severe consequences if the incident was reported. Fearing retaliation, the mother brought her daughter back to Berhampur for medical intervention without initially informing local authorities.

Berhampur Police, led by Superintendent Saravana Vivek M, registered a zero FIR and transferred it to Mumbai’s Parksite police for further action. The accused was arrested based on preliminary evidence. The victim was presented before the Child Welfare Committee in Berhampur, which ensured her medical care, rehabilitation, and financial support.
The case has raised concerns about the safety of minors and the need for swift justice. Authorities are continuing their investigation to ensure accountability for the crime.
