Mumbai Paan Shop Hid Drug Secret
Shopkeeper arrested with Rs 1.84 lakh MD drugs.
In a dramatic crackdown, Mumbai police arrested a 48-year-old paan shopkeeper, Manwar Jamirullah Ansari, on Wednesday for allegedly selling Mephedrone (MD) drugs from his outlet in Tagore Nagar, Vikhroli.
Acting on a tip-off, authorities set up a sting operation near his shop and caught Ansari red-handed in the act of dealing the narcotic. The police seized 92 grams of MD, valued at Rs 1.84 lakh, from his possession, marking a significant bust in the city’s ongoing battle against drug trafficking.
The arrest has sent shockwaves through the local community, as Ansari’s unassuming paan shop served as a front for his illicit activities. A case has been registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with further investigations underway to uncover potential links to larger drug networks.
The police are probing the source of the drugs and any accomplices involved, as they intensify efforts to curb the spread of narcotics in Mumbai’s suburbs.
