Mumbai Cop Killed and Another Hurt in Deadly Coastal Road Crash

Speeding car kills Mumbai cop and injures another on Coastal Road duty.

A devastating accident occurred on Mumbai’s Coastal Road, claiming the life of 52-year-old Head Constable Dattatray Kumbhar and leaving Constable Riddhi Patil injured. The incident took place at 7:53 AM at the connector between the Bandra-Worli Sea Link and the Coastal Road, where the two officers, attached to the Worli Police Station, were performing bandobast duty. A speeding car, driven by 46-year-old Ramchandra Rane, struck the officers, causing severe injuries.

Both officers were immediately rushed to Wockhardt Hospital. Tragically, Kumbhar succumbed to his injuries, while Patil, whose condition is reported as stable, continues to receive treatment. The Mumbai Police have detained Rane and registered a First Information Report (FIR) against him.

Authorities are investigating whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol, with his blood samples sent for testing, and are reviewing CCTV footage to determine the vehicle’s speed.

The incident underscores the dangers faced by law enforcement officers on duty, particularly on high-traffic routes like the Coastal Road. Police are questioning Rane to ascertain if fatigue or other factors, such as driving through the night, contributed to the crash.

This tragedy has sparked renewed discussions about road safety and the risks faced by personnel deployed for public security in urban environments.
