Mob Attacks Mayur Vihar Residents With Stones, Sticks; Child Critical
Mob attack in Delhi's Mayur Vihar leaves 15 injured, child critical.
At least 10 to 15 people, including a 10-year-old child, were injured after a group of alleged miscreants attacked residents of a housing society in Mayur Vihar Phase-3 in east Delhi on Sunday evening. According to residents, the violence erupted after locals objected to the alleged harassment of a young woman. Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are examining CCTV footage to identify those involved in the attack.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the confrontation began when residents intervened after a young woman was allegedly harassed. They claimed that the accused later returned with several associates and allegedly carried out a violent assault inside the residential society. Residents said the group attacked people indiscriminately, creating panic in the locality and leaving multiple individuals injured.
According to local residents, between 10 and 15 people sustained injuries in the violence, with a 10-year-old boy suffering critical injuries. The child has been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), while four to five other injured persons are also reported to be in serious condition. Family members alleged that the boy was struck from behind with stones while he was accompanying an older cousin to take photographs in the area.

CCTV footage recorded around 9:25 pm reportedly showed a group of youths running through the society and pelting stones at residents. Another video allegedly captured an individual attacking people with a wooden stick. The injured child's family claimed that some of the attackers were carrying stones and sticks, including a broad wooden plank fitted with nails. They further alleged that photographs of one of the suspected attackers had been handed over to the police.
The incident also triggered a political response, with local Aam Aadmi Party MLA Kuldeep Kumar questioning the law-and-order situation in the national capital. He alleged that the attack occurred despite the presence of a police outpost approximately 500 metres from the housing society. Kumar urged the Delhi government and law enforcement agencies to ensure the immediate arrest of those responsible and restore residents' confidence in public safety.
Delhi Police said an investigation is underway and that officials are analysing CCTV footage and recording statements from eyewitnesses to identify the accused. Police have not yet confirmed the motive behind the attack and said further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation. The incident has raised concerns over public safety in the area as authorities continue efforts to trace those involved.
