Medical Student Stabbed To Death In Punjab, Police Launch Murder Investigation

Police launched investigation after medical student was stabbed to death.

A second-year medical student was allegedly stabbed to death inside his paying guest accommodation in Patiala’s New Lal Bagh area on Monday, police said. The incident has triggered shock in the locality and among students at the Government Medical College, Patiala, where the victim was pursuing his studies.The deceased was identified as Kamal Mittal, a resident of Bareta in Punjab’s Mansa district. According to police officials, Mittal was staying in a PG accommodation near the college while completing his medical education.

Investigators suspect that the attack took place sometime during the day inside his room.Police said the incident came to light late in the evening after the victim failed to answer repeated phone calls from friends and acquaintances. Concerned over his unresponsiveness, some of them visited the PG accommodation and discovered Mittal lying in a pool of blood inside the room before alerting authorities.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim sustained three to four stab wounds to the neck, resulting in his death at the scene. Officials said the nature of the injuries suggested a violent assault, though the motive behind the killing has not yet been established.

Investigators have identified a possible suspect through CCTV footage obtained from the locality. According to police, the footage allegedly shows a man fleeing the area with bloodstains visible on his clothes shortly after the suspected time of the attack. Authorities are examining the footage and tracking movements in the surrounding area as part of the investigation.

Teams from the Civil Lines Police Station and the New Officer Colony Police Post, along with forensic experts and senior officials including the Deputy Superintendent of Police, visited the crime scene to gather evidence. Police said further investigation is underway and efforts are being made to identify and apprehend the accused.
