Massive ₹76 Crore Drug Haul Seized in Manipur’s Jiribam
Security forces thwart major drug trafficking operation
In a major crackdown, Assam Rifles, alongside Manipur Police and CRPF, seized drugs worth ₹76 crore in Jiribam district on Sunday. Acting on a tip-off, the joint operation uncovered heroin hidden in 616 soap cases and 50,000 banned methamphetamine tablets being smuggled via a boat on the Barak River, according to an Assam Rifles statement.
The seizure marks a significant blow to drug trafficking networks in the region. Former Chief Minister N Biren Singh praised the operation on X, stating, “I commend Assam Rifles for their decisive action in foiling major drug trafficking attempts.” He urged sustained efforts to curb cross-border smuggling, noting that Manipur’s border areas have long been exploited as drug routes and require heightened vigilance to prevent new trafficking corridors.
The operation underscores ongoing efforts to combat narcotics smuggling in Manipur, with investigations continuing to trace the network behind the shipment.
