Security forces in Manipur have arrested six individuals, including three militants and two alleged drug peddlers, during a series of coordinated operations across multiple districts, officials said on Saturday. The crackdown also led to the recovery of a large cache of arms, ammunition, explosives, and combat-related materials, underscoring ongoing efforts to curb insurgency and illegal drug networks in the state.
According to police officials, three of the arrested individuals are linked to the banned militant outfit People’s Liberation Army (PLA). They were detained during separate operations carried out in Kakching and Imphal West districts. Authorities said security personnel recovered weapons and other materials from their possession, including a 9 mm pistol, multiple live rounds of ammunition, cartridges, detonators, and suspected improvised explosive device (IED) components such as remote-control devices.
In a parallel operation in Thoubal district’s Mayai Leikai area under Heirok police station, security forces including personnel from the Assam Rifles recovered a significant stockpile of arms and military equipment. The seized items included firearms, ammunition, bulletproof gear, combat uniforms, and accessories, along with materials believed to be associated with insurgent activities. Officials said the recovered items have been handed over to the local police station for further investigation.
