Manipur Police Seize Arms And Drugs, Arrest Nine In Coordinated Operations

Police arrest nine in Manipur, seize arms and illegal drugs.

Security forces in Manipur have arrested nine individuals, including three alleged militants and several suspected drug peddlers, during operations conducted across multiple districts, police said on Saturday. Arms, ammunition, narcotics and other materials were recovered during the raids as authorities intensified security operations in the conflict-affected state.

Among those arrested was an alleged cadre of the Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B) faction, identified as 38-year-old Lalthangjohn from Khaominthang village in Churachandpur district. Police said he was apprehended from the Zou Veng area on Thursday. Security personnel reportedly recovered a 9 mm Hawg pistol, a magazine, seven live rounds of ammunition and a mobile phone from his possession.

The arrest comes amid heightened tensions following allegations by Tangkhul Naga organisations regarding recent attacks on Naga-inhabited villages in Kamjong district near the India-Myanmar border. The Tangkhul Aze Katamnao Long, a prominent Tangkhul students’ body, alleged that around 100 armed KNA-B militants crossed over from Myanmar and targeted four villages — Namlee, Wanglee, Ashang Khullen and Aloyo — earlier this week.

Political leaders have also raised concerns over the incident. Kamjong MLA Leishiyo Keishing of the Naga People’s Front reportedly described the attacks as involving “foreign aggression,” while the Manipur unit of the National People’s Party echoed similar concerns. Authorities, however, have not officially confirmed the allegations regarding cross-border militant involvement.

In a separate operation, police arrested a 33-year-old alleged active woman cadre of the banned underground outfit People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) from Wangkhei Konung Mamang in Imphal East district. The accused, identified as Konsam Thoi Devi, also known by aliases Nanao and Naobi, is reportedly a resident of Imphal West and had been staying in the Khergao Jail Leirak area.Officials said further investigations are underway and additional security measures have been intensified across sensitive districts. The latest arrests come as Manipur continues to witness sporadic violence, insurgent activity and anti-drug operations amid ongoing ethnic and security tensions in the state.
