Manipur Couple Held With Meth Worth Over ₹1 Crore
Security forces seize drugs, arrest couple in Thoubal.
Security forces in Manipur’s Thoubal district seized Methamphetamine tablets worth over ₹1 crore, arresting a man and his wife in the process, police announced on Tuesday. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of the Border Security Force (BSF) and Thoubal District Police raided a residence in the Thoubal Hangamthabi area, uncovering 2.356 kg of the illicit party drug, along with ₹2.04 lakh in cash, walkie-talkie sets, and gold ornaments.
The operation, conducted with precision, led to the immediate arrest of the couple, who now face charges under an FIR lodged at Lilong police station. The seized Methamphetamine, a highly addictive stimulant, underscores the growing challenge of drug trafficking in Manipur, a region plagued by insurgency and border-related vulnerabilities. Authorities estimate the street value of the confiscated drugs exceeds ₹1 crore, marking a significant blow to the local narcotics trade.
The raid highlights the ongoing efforts of Manipur’s security forces to curb drug smuggling, which often fuels organized crime and destabilizes the region. The recovered walkie-talkies suggest sophisticated coordination, raising concerns about the scale of the operation.
As investigations continue, police are probing potential links to larger trafficking networks, with the seized cash and gold pointing to significant financial operations. This bust serves as a stark reminder of the persistent fight against illegal drugs in India’s northeast.
