Man Sets In-Laws’ House Ablaze In Maharashtra After Wife Refuses To Return Home
A Maharashtra man set his in-laws’ house on fire after his wife refused to return home; no injuries reported.
A domestic dispute in Maharashtra’s Nandurbar district escalated into a major arson incident after a man allegedly set his in-laws’ house on fire when his wife refused to return home. The incident has left two houses completely destroyed, though no casualties have been reported.
According to police, the accused has been identified as Mithun Padvi. His wife had been staying at her maternal home for some time following a marital disagreement. Padvi reportedly visited his in-laws’ residence on multiple occasions, attempting to bring her back, but was turned away each time.
Frustrated by repeated refusals, Padvi allegedly set fire to the house in a fit of rage. Due to strong summer winds and high temperatures, the flames spread rapidly and intensified within minutes. The fire soon engulfed not only the in-laws’ residence but also spread to a neighbouring home belonging to Subhash Valvi, completely destroying both structures and their contents.

Eyewitness videos circulating from the area show the houses being reduced to ashes while residents attempt to control the blaze. Despite efforts, the fire quickly went out of control before emergency response teams could fully contain the damage.
Police said Padvi fled the scene immediately after the incident. Based on a complaint filed by his mother-in-law, a case has been registered, and a search operation has been launched to trace and arrest him. Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the escalation of the domestic dispute into arson.
Officials confirmed that while the material loss is extensive, there has been no loss of life. The incident has, however, raised concerns over rising domestic conflicts turning violent in rural parts of the state, prompting calls for quicker intervention mechanisms in family disputes.
