Man Jumps From Fifth Floor After Alleged Police Assault in Indore

Indore man jumps from fifth floor after alleged police slap.

A 23‑year‑old man in Indore died by suicide early Thursday, plunging the local residential community into shock and prompting police to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. The incident occurred late Wednesday night in the Chandan Nagar area’s Tapti Complex, where the man jumped from the fifth floor of his apartment building.

The deceased has been identified as Raj Makwana, a resident of the complex who lived with his parents, according to family members and local authorities. Makwana, who reportedly suffered from breathing difficulties and was receiving medical treatment for mental stress, had gone downstairs in the building late at night because he was feeling unwell due to the heat.

Family members told police that a security guard questioned Makwana about his late‑night walk, leading to a verbal dispute. They said the guard then called local police officers, and during questioning, one of the policemen allegedly slapped Makwana. The family claims this heightened his anxiety and fear, contributing to his tragic decision later in the night.

After the altercation, Makwana returned to his apartment on the fifth floor. A short time later, he jumped from the building and was critically injured on impact. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead by doctors. Relatives described the scene as harrowing, with his mother present when he took the fatal leap.

Indore police have registered a case and initiated a probe into the incident, including the allegations of police conduct and the events leading up to Makwana’s suicide. A police official from the Chandan Nagar station said that while the case appears to be a suicide, the investigation will consider all aspects once the post‑mortem and other reports are completed.

The victim’s family said Makwana had also apologised and sought forgiveness from the police during the earlier confrontation. They emphasised his ongoing mental health struggles as a factor in his heightened distress. Authorities are examining the interactions between the police and Makwana to establish a clear sequence of events before the tragic incident.
