Man, Father Convicted in Brutal Rape and Murder of Minor Girl in Delhi
Today;s conviction concluded a case that began on February 9, 2019, when the girl was reported missing.
A Delhi court today convicted 27-year-old Rajender for the rape and murder of a minor girl, alongside his 57-year-old father, Ram Saran, who aided in the chilling crime. The verdict, delivered by Additional Sessions Judge Babita Puniya, concluded a case that began on February 9, 2019, when the girl was reported missing. Her body, limbs tied, was found two days later in a DDA park, revealing a horrifying tale of lust-driven violence.
In a detailed 168-page order issued on February 24, the court established a "complete chain" of evidence proving Rajender kidnapped the girl to "fulfil his lust," sexually assaulted her, and murdered her. The prosecution, led by Special Prosecutor Sharawan Kumar Bishnoi, showed that Rajender lured the child with chips to his home, where the assault occurred. Medical evidence pointed to death from vaginal injuries and a blunt head trauma, while DNA from Rajender’s profile matched samples from the victim’s body and clothing. The court dismissed Rajender’s claim of being framed, affirming the forensic evidence’s integrity.
Ram Saran was convicted for his role in the murder and cover-up, charged under Sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC. The duo transported the body in a suitcase on a scooter before dumping it in the park, a fact the court highlighted as a "strong indication" of guilt. The motive, per the order, shifted from lust to evading punishment, with the circumstantial evidence—supported by witness testimonies and forensic findings—leaving no doubt of their culpability.
Rajender faces charges of rape, murder, kidnapping, and aggravated penetrative sexual assault under the POCSO Act, marking this as a "brutal" and "gruesome" crime. Sentencing awaits, but the case’s severity could invite the harshest penalties, reflecting India’s resolve against such atrocities. With inputs from PTI.
