Man Arrested for Raping 3-Year-Old Lured with Chips in Jodhpur

Horrific assault on toddler sparks outrage in Rajasthan.

In a gut-wrenching incident in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, a three-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped by a man known to her family. The accused, identified as 25-year-old Sajid Khan, reportedly lured the young child with a packet of chips before taking her to a secluded field near her home, where he committed the heinous act. After the assault, Khan abandoned the injured girl near her residence, leaving her in a traumatized state.

The child’s family discovered her crying in pain and immediately sought help from local villagers. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where her condition was found to be critical. During the initial medical examination, doctors identified signs of sexual assault, prompting them to alert the police. Due to the severity of her injuries, the toddler was transferred to a specialized facility in Jodhpur for advanced treatment, where she remains in critical condition.

Following the crime, Khan attempted to flee to Bharatpur but was apprehended by police in the Pali district. Preliminary investigations revealed disturbing details about the accused, including his addiction to pornography. Authorities disclosed that Khan had watched approximately 15 pornographic videos prior to the crime, raising concerns about the influence of such content on his actions.

The incident has ignited widespread outrage across Rajasthan, with citizens and activists demanding justice for the young victim. The case has also intensified scrutiny on the state’s law-and-order situation, particularly regarding crimes against women and marginalized communities. Opposition leaders, including former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully, have sharply criticized the current government, accusing it of failing to curb the rising tide of violence against women, especially those from Dalit and tribal backgrounds.

Official data presented in the Rajasthan Assembly paints a grim picture. Between January 1, 2024, and January 31, 2025, a total of 763 rape cases involving women from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) were registered across the state. Jaipur reported the highest number of cases at 104, followed by Ganganagar (60), Alwar (38), Hanumangarh (36), Jodhpur (31), and Sikar (29). Despite the alarming figures, progress on legal action has been slow, with charge sheets filed in only 333 cases and First Information Reports (FIRs) registered in 410.

The brutal assault on the three-year-old has sparked protests and calls for stricter measures to protect vulnerable communities. Activists are urging the government to address systemic issues, including delays in legal proceedings and inadequate support for victims of sexual violence. As the toddler fights for her life, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for stronger action to ensure the safety of women and children in Rajasthan.
