Mahakumbh Viral Woman, Husband Live in Fear Amid POCSO Case
Mahakumbh viral couple in hiding after Kerala HC withdraws protection order.
The woman who gained widespread attention during the 2025 Mahakumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh and her husband are reportedly living in hiding as legal proceedings and safety concerns continue to surround their inter-faith marriage. According to people assisting the couple, they have spent the past three months moving between different locations in Kerala out of fear for their safety. The situation has intensified following the expiry of the husband's interim bail in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case registered in Madhya Pradesh and the Kerala High Court's decision to vacate an earlier order granting them police protection.
The case against the 26-year-old husband was filed by the woman's father, who alleged that his daughter was a minor and had been abducted. The husband had been granted interim bail by the Kerala High Court, but that relief expired earlier this month. Following the expiry of the bail period, a team from the Madhya Pradesh Police travelled to Kerala to locate the husband and take him back in connection with the pending case.
The Kerala High Court also vacated its earlier order directing police protection for the couple after state police informed the court that they had been unable to trace them. According to Dhanam Kannan, a film professional who has been assisting the couple, they had provided his address to the court but were reluctant to remain there due to fears of being located by the Madhya Pradesh Police. As a result, their whereabouts became unknown, leading the court to withdraw the protection order.

Supporters of the couple have claimed they are also concerned about possible threats from Hindutva groups because of the inter-faith marriage. Those assisting the couple allege that these concerns have contributed to their decision to remain in hiding and frequently change locations. However, authorities have not publicly confirmed any specific security threats, and the legal proceedings continue independently of these claims.
The case has attracted significant public attention because the woman became widely recognised after videos of her at the 2025 Mahakumbh Mela went viral on social media. Since then, her personal life and marriage have remained under intense scrutiny, with the legal dispute between her family and her husband becoming the focus of proceedings in both Madhya Pradesh and Kerala. The matter involves questions relating to age, consent and jurisdiction, which are currently subject to legal examination.
The Madhya Pradesh Police continue efforts to trace the husband following the expiry of his interim bail, while the legal process remains ongoing. With the withdrawal of police protection and uncertainty surrounding the couple's location, the case has evolved into a complex legal and social issue involving inter-state law enforcement, court proceedings and concerns expressed by those supporting the couple. Further developments are expected as authorities continue their investigation and the courts hear the pending matters.
