Mahadev Biswas, BJP Worker, Found Dead In West Bengal Ahead of PM Rally

Hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to address a public rally in Haldia on Thursday, the body of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker was recovered from the banks of the Haldi River, sparking a political controversy in the region. The deceased has been identified as Mahadev Biswas, a resident of Banskhana Jalpai village under Bhabanipur Police Station in Purba Medinipur district.

Family members reported that Biswas had been missing since Tuesday afternoon after leaving home and failing to return. Locals discovered his body on Wednesday evening and alerted the police, who recovered it and sent it to Haldia Sub-divisional Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The BJP alleged that Biswas was murdered by miscreants allegedly backed by the Trinamool Congress (TMC), claiming that the worker had been actively involved in preparations for the Prime Minister’s rally, including putting up flags and festoons. Party leader Biswanath Banerjee described the death as “suspicious” and demanded a thorough investigation.

The TMC, however, strongly denied the allegations. Tilak Kumar Chakraborty said the BJP was attempting to politicize a tragic incident, stressing that those responsible should be identified and punished.

Meanwhile, the Officer-in-Charge of Bhabanipur Police Station confirmed that no formal complaint alleging murder has been filed by the victim’s family. “A case of unnatural death has been registered, and an investigation is underway,” the officer said, indicating that authorities are looking into the circumstances surrounding Biswas’s death.

The incident has heightened political tensions in Purba Medinipur ahead of the Prime Minister’s rally, drawing attention from both state and national parties as the investigation continues.
