Madhya Pradesh Judge’s Home Attacked at Midnight; Assailants Issue Death Threats
Unidentified men storm MP magistrate’s residence in fury.
A chilling assault unfolded in Bhalumada, Anuppur district, as a gang of unidentified assailants targeted the official residence of Judicial Magistrate First Class Amandeep Singh Chhabra shortly after midnight on Saturday. The attackers hurled death threats, vandalized property, and pelted stones into the courtyard, sending shockwaves through the local judiciary and raising serious concerns about the safety of judicial officers.
According to police, the incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. when Chhabra, his family, and staff were asleep. The group arrived at the government-allotted bungalow, located 35 kilometers from the district headquarters, shouting abuses and warning the judge of fatal consequences. They smashed a gate lamp, damaged iron fixtures, and rained stones into the premises before fleeing as Chhabra emerged to confront them.
Superintendent of Police Moti-ur Rehman confirmed that a formal complaint was lodged at Bhalumada police station. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including criminal intimidation and mischief. Investigators are analyzing CCTV footage from nearby areas and questioning neighbors to identify the perpetrators.

Authorities are probing whether the attack stems from a recent judicial ruling, as Chhabra presides over sensitive cases involving land disputes, mining violations, and local criminal networks—issues that have previously sparked backlash in the coal-rich region. The Madhya Pradesh High Court has been informed, and senior officials are reviewing security protocols for judicial officers across the state.
The brazen strike has ignited outrage within legal circles, with the Anuppur Bar Association condemning the incident and demanding enhanced protection, including armed guards and fortified residences. “Judges cannot dispense justice under fear,” a senior advocate told reporters. Police have intensified patrolling in Bhalumada and assured swift action to apprehend the culprits before tensions escalate further.
