Luthra Brothers Escorted to Goa Following Deportation from Thailand in Fire Case
Luthra brothers arrive for questioning in deadly fire case.
Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra, the co-owners of the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora, North Goa, were escorted to Goa from Delhi on Wednesday after their forced deportation from Thailand. This move is directly connected to the catastrophic fire that erupted at their establishment on December 6, tragically claiming the lives of 25 individuals. A specialized team from the Goa Police accompanied the accused during their arrival at Manohar International Airport in Mopa at approximately 10:45 am, ensuring secure transfer amid heightened scrutiny.
Upon landing, the brothers are set to undergo detailed interrogation sessions at the Anjuna police station, where investigators aim to uncover critical details surrounding the incident. Following these proceedings, they will be produced before a judicial court in Mapusa to seek regular remand, allowing authorities extended time for thorough questioning. The charges filed earlier by Anjuna police encompass serious offenses, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, reflecting the profound implications of alleged negligence in safety standards.
The sequence of events leading to their capture began with their abrupt departure to Phuket on December 7, merely hours after the fire broke out. This prompted immediate countermeasures, including the revocation of their passports and the activation of an Interpol Blue Corner Notice to facilitate international tracking. Their detention in Thailand occurred on December 11, following a formal extradition request from Indian authorities, culminating in deportation executed under prevailing bilateral legal frameworks.

The arrests in Delhi transpired swiftly upon their return on Tuesday, with a local court sanctioning a two-day transit remand to enable seamless handover to Goa Police custody. This coordinated effort highlights the determination of law enforcement agencies to pursue accountability across borders in cases involving significant loss of life and potential violations of public safety regulations.
As the investigation progresses, five other individuals—comprising managers and staff members directly associated with the nightclub operations—have already been taken into custody. Authorities continue to examine evidence related to fire safety compliance, structural integrity, and operational protocols, seeking to establish a comprehensive understanding of the factors that contributed to the devastating outcome and ensure justice for the victims and their families.
