Lucknow Influencer's Dowry Death: Family Alleges Murder Six Months After Wedding
Police file dowry death case after 24-year-old influencer is found dead at Lucknow in-laws' home.
A 24-year-old social media influencer was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her matrimonial home in the Saadatganj area of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, less than six months after her marriage. The incident has triggered a police investigation and led to the registration of a dowry death case against her husband and five members of his family. Authorities said the woman was found hanging at her in-laws' residence on May 30, while her family has alleged that she was murdered following prolonged harassment over dowry demands.
According to police, the victim married a Lucknow-based social media influencer on December 9, 2025. The woman's family claimed that substantial gifts, household items, and Rs 7 lakh in cash were provided during the wedding. However, they alleged that the groom's family remained dissatisfied and continued to pressure the woman and her relatives for additional dowry, including a demand for a car. The family maintains that these demands became a source of frequent conflict after the marriage.
Relatives of the deceased alleged that she was subjected to continuous mental and physical harassment by her husband and in-laws. They said she repeatedly informed them about the alleged abuse and distress she was facing at her matrimonial home. Family members reportedly traveled from Kanpur to Lucknow several times in an attempt to mediate and resolve the dispute, but they claim that the harassment did not stop despite their interventions.

While the woman's in-laws have maintained that she died by suicide, her family has strongly rejected that version of events. They have accused the accused family members of murdering her and staging the scene to make it appear as a case of suicide. The allegations have intensified scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding her death, particularly given that it occurred within a short period of marriage, a factor that often attracts additional legal attention in dowry-related cases.
Police officials conducted an inspection of the residence and completed the inquest proceedings in the presence of senior officers. The body was subsequently sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and gather forensic evidence. Investigators are awaiting the medical findings, which are expected to play a crucial role in establishing the sequence of events leading to the woman's death.
Based on the complaint filed by the victim's family, Lucknow Police registered a case under Sections 80(2) relating to dowry death and 85 concerning cruelty by a husband or relatives under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act. The FIR names six accused, including the husband, father-in-law, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, and an aunt-in-law. Special police teams have been formed to trace and arrest the accused, while the investigation into the case remains ongoing.
