LPG e-KYC Deadline Extended to September 7 as Agencies Prepare For Rollout

A software update introduced for LPG agencies and the extension of the e-KYC deadline have provided some clarity for domestic cooking gas consumers who have not yet completed biometric authentication. The earlier August 31 deadline has now been extended to September 7, giving LPG households additional time to complete the verification process.

The development comes amid efforts to ensure that eligible domestic LPG consumers complete e-KYC authentication. Around 86% of the 1.26 crore domestic LPG users in Telangana have completed the process, according to an official. The remaining consumers are expected to use the extended window to complete biometric authentication and avoid potential issues related to their LPG connections or future cylinder bookings.

Telangana LPG Distributors Association president Jagan Mohan Reddy said the software used by LPG agencies has been updated to allow them to indent, or request, stocks meant for non-e-KYC consumers. The update is significant because LPG distributors had faced uncertainty over how supplies would be handled for customers who had not completed the verification process by the earlier deadline.

According to Reddy, the software change could indicate that oil marketing companies are preparing for further instructions from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas regarding connections that remain without completed e-KYC. The update itself does not necessarily mean that any new restriction has been imposed on consumers, but it provides agencies with a mechanism to manage non-e-KYC stocks if fresh directions are issued.

The extension of the deadline to September 7 is therefore expected to give consumers more time to complete the required process. LPG users who have yet to undergo biometric authentication can approach their respective gas agencies or use the available official authentication channels to complete e-KYC. The move also reduces immediate uncertainty for households that had been concerned about possible disruption to their LPG cylinder deliveries.

With about 14% of domestic LPG users still outside the completed e-KYC category, distributors and consumers remain focused on completing the verification exercise within the extended deadline. The software update and revised timeline suggest that the authorities and oil marketing companies are continuing to work on arrangements for handling both verified and non-verified connections while further instructions, if any, are awaited.
