Kerala Man Arrested With 400 Grams Cannabis Hidden in Pressure Cooker

Kerala man arrested after cannabis hidden in pressure cooker was discovered.

A routine police raid in Kerala’s Thrissur district took an unexpected turn after officers discovered a cannabis stash hidden inside a pressure cooker filled with rice, following an unusual giveaway — the cooker’s whistle. The incident occurred in Aduppootty, under Kunnamkulam, during a targeted operation based on a tip-off regarding illegal drug storage in the area.

Police officials said the operation began after Kunnamkulam Sub Inspector Rakesh received confidential information that cannabis was being stored at a residence. A police team subsequently launched a search operation at the house, which continued for nearly two hours. Despite an extensive inspection of the premises, officers initially found no incriminating evidence.

The breakthrough came when a pressure cooker in the kitchen began to whistle, drawing attention from the searching officers. At the same time, a strong smell emanating from the kitchen area raised suspicion among the team. Upon closer inspection, police opened the cooker and discovered a packet of cannabis concealed inside rice that was being cooked.

Authorities confirmed that the accused, identified as 40-year-old Bineesh, was arrested at the scene. A total of 400 grams of cannabis was recovered from his possession. Police said the suspect had allegedly attempted to hide the contraband inside household food items in an effort to evade detection during the raid.

Further investigation revealed that the accused was not a first-time offender. Officials stated that he had been involved in two previous criminal cases. He was also reportedly named in another incident in which he allegedly threatened an excise inspector and a team of officials while wielding a knife, adding to his criminal history.

Police have said that further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused was part of a larger network involved in the distribution or storage of illegal substances in the region. The case has highlighted both the ongoing drug enforcement efforts in Kerala and the increasingly unconventional methods used to conceal contraband from law enforcement agencies.
