Kerala Beggar’s Death Leads to Recovery of Over ₹4.5 Lakh in Cash
Massive cash haul including banned notes shocks Alappuzha locals.
In an extraordinary and bewildering turn of events in Kerala's Alappuzha district, a habitual beggar identified as Anil Kishore, who was a well-known figure soliciting alms daily in the Charummoot locality and adjacent areas, passed away on January 7, 2026, leading to the astonishing recovery of over Rs 4.5 lakh in cash hidden within a personal container he carried.
The sequence of unfortunate incidents began late on Monday night, January 6, when Kishore met with a serious road accident resulting in significant injuries; kind-hearted residents from the neighborhood promptly intervened, transporting him to a local hospital where he received initial medical care and was admitted for observation.
Despite the treatment provided, Kishore remained reticent, disclosing only his name to hospital staff before unexpectedly leaving the facility against medical advice without notifying anyone, a move that later proved fatal given the apparent severity of his condition and the lack of follow-up care.

The following morning, passersby discovered his lifeless body slumped outside a nearby shop, triggering an immediate police response that included shifting the remains to the hospital for a detailed post-mortem examination aimed at confirming the precise cause of death, whether directly linked to the accident trauma or compounded by other factors.
Upon securing the scene and examining belongings found nearby, authorities located a nondescript container that, when formally opened under witness including local panchayat member Philip Umman, revealed meticulously packed bundles of currency notes stored in plastic tins—comprising discontinued Rs 2,000 denomination bills alongside various foreign currencies—amounting to more than Rs 4.5 lakh, with the entire sum now slated for court deposit until legitimate claimants, if any, emerge.
