Karnataka Voter Deletion Scam Exposed: Rs 80 Paid Per Fake Deletion in Aland

Karnataka SIT uncovers Rs 80 paid per fake voter deletion in Aland ahead of 2023 elections.

A startling investigation by the Karnataka Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) has revealed a voter suppression scheme in the Aland constituency, where a data centre operator was paid Rs 80 for each fraudulent voter deletion application submitted to the Election Commission. Between December 2022 and February 2023, a total of 6,018 such applications were filed, amounting to payments of Rs 4.8 lakh. This scandal, linked to the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections, has raised serious concerns about electoral integrity.

The Aland case gained prominence after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi cited it as a key example in his "vote chori" (vote theft) allegations against the opposition. The constituency, won by Congress candidate B R Patil in 2023, saw these fraudulent attempts to manipulate the voter list, allegedly to sway the election outcome. The scale of the operation, involving thousands of fake deletion requests, points to a coordinated effort to disenfranchise voters in the fiercely contested seat.

As part of the ongoing probe, the SIT recently conducted raids on properties linked to BJP leader Subhash Guttedar, who was defeated by Patil in the 2023 Aland election. The raids aim to uncover further evidence of those orchestrating the voter deletion scheme. The investigation has intensified scrutiny on electoral practices in Karnataka, with authorities working to identify the masterminds behind the operation and their motives.

This revelation underscores the vulnerability of electoral processes to manipulation and the critical need for robust safeguards. The SIT’s findings have sparked public outrage and calls for stricter oversight to protect democratic rights. As the investigation unfolds, it remains to be seen how this scandal will impact trust in the electoral system and what measures will be implemented to prevent such fraud in future elections.
