Kangpokpi Ambush Leaves Four Dead, One Injured And Another Person Missing

Four civilians were killed, one person was injured and another was reported missing after an alleged ambush on the Imphal-Tamenglong (IT) road in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Thursday, officials said. The incident occurred amid renewed tension between Naga and Kuki communities in the area, with intense firing reported following the attack. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and efforts are underway to establish the identities of those responsible. According to local authorities, the victims belonged to the Naga community. The alleged attack took place at around 8.30 am between Makui Ashang and Thananba Naga village in Kangpokpi district.

The four deceased were identified as Tadsongbou Ringkangmai, founder and principal of Right Path School, T Khullen; Mariakdibou Wijunamai, an executive member of the Makui Youth Club; Japou MK, a student leader of Thonglang Akutpa; and Anil Wijunamai, another executive member of the Makui Youth Club, officials said. One other person sustained injuries during the incident, while another person travelling with the group was reported missing.
