#JustIn: Five Teachers Arrested for Drinking on School Trip in Bihar
Five Bihar teachers arrested for drunkenness during student tour.
Five Bihar government school teachers were arrested on Friday at the India-Nepal border in Supaul district for allegedly being drunk while accompanying students on an educational tour under the Chief Minister's 'Bihar Darshan' Scheme. The arrests occurred during a routine security check at the Bhimnagar checkpost as the group returned from Nepal.
According to Sanjay Kumar Priyadarshi, a senior officer with Bihar’s Prohibition Department, all five teachers tested positive for alcohol during a breath-analyser check. “These teachers were arriving from Nepal. Routine checks are conducted here for every individual and vehicle. Today, as part of this process, five individuals were stopped and tested using a breath-analyser machine. All five individuals tested positive,” he said.
Bihar maintains a strict prohibition on alcohol, under which the consumption, purchase, sale, and transportation of liquor are completely banned. The arrested teachers have been identified as Shivansh Kumar, Deepnarayan Ram, English Kumar, Dhirendra Kumar, and Mithu Kumar. Following completion of legal formalities, they were sent to judicial custody.

The Education Department has been informed of the incident so that appropriate departmental action can be taken. Meanwhile, the local community has expressed outrage over the conduct of the teachers, calling it “deeply shameful and alarming,” particularly given their responsibility in guiding and educating children.
Supaul District Magistrate Sawan Kumar confirmed that the suspension process against the teachers has been initiated. The incident has sparked a broader conversation about accountability and professional conduct among educators entrusted with students’ welfare during official trips.
Authorities have assured that investigations will continue, and strict action will be taken to uphold disciplinary standards, prevent similar incidents in the future, and maintain public trust in government-run educational programs.
