#JustIn: Bomb Threat To Ahmedabad Airport – Security Tightened, Probe Launched

Ahmedabad airport receives bomb threat email targeting luggage area, triggers security sweep and police probe.

Security agencies were placed on high alert on Wednesday after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) in Ahmedabad received a bomb threat email, triggering swift action by airport authorities and law enforcement agencies. The threat led to the immediate tightening of security across the airport premises to ensure passenger safety.

According to officials, the threatening email was received at 11:05 a.m. on the airport’s official email ID and other feedback addresses. Sent from an unidentified email account, the message carried the subject line “BOMB Blast luggage Section” and claimed that Ahmedabad Airport was a target, raising serious security concerns.

The email reportedly contained provocative remarks and threats, including politically sensitive statements and warnings of severe consequences if certain demands were not fulfilled. Following the receipt of the email, senior airport officials, including the Chief Security Officer, were alerted without delay.

An emergency meeting of the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee was convened at 11:20 a.m., lasting around 30 minutes. After a detailed assessment, the threat was categorised as “non-specific”, but authorities proceeded with extensive precautionary checks across terminal buildings, luggage areas, and other sensitive zones.

Subsequently, a formal complaint was lodged at the airport police station by the Landside Security Duty Manager. Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act and criminal intimidation laws, while the cybercrime cell has begun efforts to trace the email’s origin.

Officials noted that this incident follows a similar pattern seen earlier this month, when multiple schools in the region received hoax bomb threat emails. While no explosives were found in those cases, authorities continue to treat such threats seriously amid growing concerns over misuse of digital platforms for public disruption.
