#JUSTIN: Bengal Home Guard's Mysterious Death Inside Police Quarters

Female Home Guard found hanging in Canning police quarters; family alleges murder by sub-inspector.

A female Home Guard was found dead under mysterious circumstances at the residential quarters of Canning Police Station in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district on Sunday, sending shockwaves across the region. The incident has sparked public outrage after the victim’s family lodged a murder complaint against a serving police officer.

The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Guljan Parveen Molla, also known as Reshmi, a resident of Uttar Moukhali under Jibantala Police Station in Canning Block II. According to police sources, she had gone to the police quarters after completing her duty on Friday, following which her family lost contact with her.

Family members said repeated attempts to reach her over the phone on Friday night and throughout Saturday were unsuccessful. Growing anxious, they went to the Canning Police Station on Saturday. Her sister, Ruksana Khatun, went to the residential quarters, where she found Reshmi unresponsive inside a locked room. Locals and police personnel soon gathered at the spot.

The police recovered the body and rushed it to Canning Sub-Divisional Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. The body has since been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. The incident has caused widespread tension and grief in the locality.

The family has filed a written complaint accusing a sub-inspector of the Canning Police Station, alleging that he was responsible for Reshmi’s death. They claimed the officer had a personal relationship with her and alleged foul play after the matter reportedly became public. The deceased’s uncle, Chayed Molla, has demanded strict and exemplary punishment for the accused.

Police officials said that while preliminary findings suggest an unnatural death, all angles are being thoroughly investigated in view of the serious allegations. “The body has been sent for autopsy. The family has filed a complaint against a police officer, and the matter is under investigation,” said a senior officer of the Baruipur Police District. Authorities have assured a fair and transparent probe into the incident.
