Jharkhand Bank Heist: Rs 1.64 Crore Cash, 2.2 Kg Gold Stolen

Six armed robbers loot an HDFC Bank branch in Madhupur; police investigate the incident.

Six armed men looted Rs 1.64 crore in cash and 2.2 kilograms of gold from an HDFC Bank branch on Rajabari Road in Madhupur, Jharkhand’s Deoghar district, police reported on Tuesday. The daring heist, which occurred on Monday afternoon, has prompted a swift response from authorities, with two specialized teams formed to track down the perpetrators.

Madhupur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Satyendra Prasad told PTI that the investigation is leveraging intelligence inputs and technical surveillance. “We are working on leads and hope to nab the culprits soon,” he said. The police are analyzing CCTV footage and other evidence to identify the robbers, who executed the crime in broad daylight, raising concerns about local security.

State Health Minister Irfan Ansari, who owns the building housing the bank, visited the site and assured bank officials of prompt police action. “The authorities are fully committed to apprehending those responsible,” Ansari stated, emphasizing efforts to restore confidence among bank staff and customers. The heist has sparked alarm in Madhupur, a town 50 kilometers from Deoghar’s district headquarters.
