Jammu Division Announces Early Summer Vacation; Primary Classes Close June 1, Upper Classes June 8
The Jammu government announces an early summer vacation as record heat reaches 39.9 degrees Celsius.
The government of Jammu and Kashmir has announced summer vacations for schools in the summer zone of the Jammu division amid rising temperatures and continuing heatwave conditions in the region. The decision was taken after Jammu recorded a maximum temperature of 39.9 degrees Celsius on Saturday, which was reported to be 1.5 degrees above the seasonal average.
Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakina Itoo confirmed the development through a post on her official X account. According to the announcement, summer vacations for primary school students will begin from June 1, 2026. Meanwhile, students studying in Classes 6 to 12 will start their summer break from June 8, 2026, in view of the prevailing weather conditions across the region.
The government’s move comes as several parts of North India continue to experience unusually high temperatures during the early summer period. Authorities have expressed concern over the health risks posed by prolonged exposure to extreme heat, particularly for schoolchildren. Education officials are expected to issue detailed guidelines regarding the vacation schedule and reopening dates for schools in the affected zones.
