Jabalpur Road Accident: 5 Women Killed, Several Injured; Rs 10 Lakh Compensation Announced
Five women lost their lives in a car accident in Barela, Jabalpur; grieving families protested for compensation and justice as police seized the vehicle.
At least five women were killed and several others injured in a road accident involving a car in the Barela area of Jabalpur district on Monday, police officials said. The incident triggered protests by the victims’ families, who blocked the road demanding strict action against those responsible.
According to the police, the accident occurred when a car allegedly hit the women, leading to multiple fatalities on the spot. The injured were rushed to nearby medical facilities, while the severity of the incident sparked anger among local residents and family members of the deceased, who gathered at the site soon after the accident.
Additional Superintendent of Police Suryakant Sharma confirmed the deaths and said the vehicle involved in the accident has been seized. He added that the owner of the car has already been taken into custody, and further legal proceedings are underway. Police officials assured that arrests would be made soon after completing preliminary investigations.

Following the incident, the families of the victims blocked the road in Barela, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and adequate compensation. Authorities intervened to control the situation and held discussions with the aggrieved families to address their concerns.
The district administration, with the consent of the Madhya Pradesh government, announced compensation for the victims. As per the decision, the families of the deceased will receive ₹10 lakh each, while those seriously injured will be given ₹2 lakh. Victims who sustained minor injuries will be compensated with ₹1 lakh, officials said.
Police further stated that the injured are being provided treatment at a private hospital and all medical expenses will be taken care of. Officials reiterated that strict legal action will be taken against those found responsible for the accident and assured the families that justice would be delivered in a timely manner.
