IT Engineer Brutally Murdered in Suspected Honour Killing

Software engineer killed in caste-based attack in Tamil Nadu.

In a shocking incident in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, a 27-year-old IT engineer from a Scheduled Caste was brutally hacked to death on July 27, 2025, in a suspected honour killing linked to an inter-caste relationship. The victim, employed at a reputed software firm in Chennai, was ambushed near a Siddha facility by an armed gang led by S Surjith, a youth now in custody.

The attack, which occurred on Sunday evening, has sent shockwaves through the community. According to police reports, Surjith, driven by alleged disapproval of the victim's relationship with a woman from a different caste, orchestrated the violent assault. The victim sustained multiple fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following a swift investigation, Tirunelveli police arrested Surjith on Monday, July 28, 2025. In a surprising twist, authorities revealed that both of Surjith’s parents are serving sub-inspectors in the police force, raising questions about potential influence or oversight. A senior police officer confirmed that a case has been registered against Surjith and his parents under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, citing the caste-based nature of the crime.

The police are continuing their probe to uncover any additional accomplices or motives, while the community mourns the loss of a young professional whose life was cut short in this horrific act of violence. Further details are awaited as the case unfolds.
