Israel Eliminates Over 400 Hezbollah Fighters Since March Offensive, Sources Report
Hezbollah sources report 400+ fighters killed since March 2 war launch against Israel.
More than 400 fighters from Hezbollah have been killed since the Lebanese armed group initiated a new round of hostilities with Israel on March 2, according to two sources familiar with the organization’s internal casualty counts. The figure, reported by Reuters on March 27, represents the first comprehensive toll of Hezbollah combatant deaths in Israel’s ongoing air and ground operations across Lebanon.
The sources described the losses as stemming from an expanding Israeli campaign that began after Hezbollah launched rockets and drones toward Israeli targets, including the city of Haifa, in what the group framed as retaliation amid broader regional tensions. Fighting has since intensified along the Lebanon-Israel border and in parts of southern and eastern Lebanon.
Israeli military assessments have placed the number of Hezbollah operatives killed in this latest phase even higher, with reports citing at least 700 deaths, including hundreds from the group’s elite Radwan Force. These differing estimates highlight the challenges in verifying battlefield casualties in real time, as both sides maintain operational secrecy and independent tallies are limited. The renewed clashes mark a sharp escalation following a U.S.-brokered ceasefire that took hold in November 2024, which had paused major hostilities after a broader 2023-2024 conflict that caused thousands of deaths on both sides.
Hezbollah, a powerful Iran-backed Shia militant organization with deep political influence in Lebanon, has long positioned itself as a resistance force against Israel. The group’s military capabilities were significantly degraded during the previous round of fighting, which included the targeted killings of several senior leaders. The current flare-up has already displaced thousands in southern Lebanon and raised concerns about further instability in a country still recovering from economic crisis and the scars of past conflicts.

Lebanese authorities have reported broader civilian and overall casualties from Israeli strikes, though precise breakdowns remain fluid. The renewed violence has drawn international attention, with calls for restraint to prevent the situation from spiraling into a wider regional confrontation involving other actors. As operations continue, both sides have signaled no immediate willingness to de-escalate, leaving the humanitarian and security implications for Lebanon increasingly severe.
The latest developments underscore the fragile nature of the post-ceasefire period and the persistent risk of renewed full-scale war along Israel’s northern border. Observers note that sustained fighting could further strain Lebanon’s fragile state institutions and complicate efforts toward long-term stability in the region.
