Indian IT Professional, 8 Months Pregnant, Killed in Sydney After BMW–Kia Crash
A BMW hit a Kia, which struck an 8-month pregnant Indian woman crossing a Sydney road.
A 33-year-old Indian-origin woman, eight months pregnant with her second child, was killed in a tragic chain-reaction collision in Sydney’s Hornsby suburb on the night of Friday, November 14, 2025. Samanvitha Dhareshwar, an IT professional from Karnataka, was crossing George Street with family members outside a car park when a Kia Carnival slowed to allow them passage. Moments later, a BMW sedan driven by 19-year-old provisional licence holder Aaron Papazoglu rear-ended the Kia, propelling it forward and striking Dhareshwar. Despite immediate treatment by paramedics, she and her unborn baby died at Westmead Hospital.
Papazoglu was arrested early Saturday and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, and causing the loss of a foetus. He appeared in Parramatta Local Court on Monday and will seek bail later this week. The 48-year-old Kia driver was uninjured and faces no charges. NSW Police Assistant Commissioner David Driver described the scene as “very confronting” for emergency responders.
Samanvitha and her husband, Vineet, both tech professionals, had recently purchased land in Grantham Farm and lodged plans for their dream two-storey family home. The couple already had one young child. Tributes have flooded social media, with the Indians in the Sydney community expressing profound grief and launching a GoFundMe to support Vineet and their surviving child.

The incident has reignited concerns about road safety at pedestrian crossings and the risks posed by young drivers on provisional licences. Police are examining dashcam footage and witness statements as part of their ongoing investigation. The tragedy marks another devastating loss for Australia’s Indian diaspora and serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life in everyday suburban settings.
