Indian Envoy Praises Ireland’s Strong Stand Against Attacks on Community
Indian envoy praises Ireland’s strong condemnation of attacks on Indians.
Indian Envoy to Ireland, Akhilesh Mishra, commended the Irish leadership for their unequivocal condemnation of racially aggravated attacks on the Indian community in Ireland. The discussion with John Lahart TD, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade, followed an Embassy advisory issued last month, urging Indian citizens to take precautions for their personal security amid a series of troubling incidents.
Ambassador Mishra highlighted the impactful statements from Irish President Michael D. Higgins, Deputy Prime Minister Micheál Martin, the Minister of Justice, and the Garda Commissioner. “Their powerful and categorical condemnations have sent a much-needed message of reassurance to the Indian community in Ireland and their families back in India,” Mishra stated, according to a press release issued by the Indian mission on Friday.
During the meeting, Lahart expressed deep affection for the Indian community, particularly professionals in his constituency, and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening India-Ireland bilateral ties. Mishra thanked Lahart for his unwavering support and acknowledged the broader solidarity shown by the Irish government, political leaders, citizens, and state agencies in response to the “misdirected” attacks.

The envoy also briefed Lahart on the growing trade and multifaceted engagement between the two nations, underscoring the deepening relationship. The recent postponement of the Ireland India Council’s annual “India Day” celebrations, prompted by security concerns, further highlighted the gravity of the situation, with President Higgins publicly condemning the “despicable attacks” on Indian workers and professionals.
The Irish leadership’s resolute stance has fostered a sense of security and strengthened diplomatic ties, reinforcing Ireland’s commitment to its Indian community.
