India Must Brace for Extended Wars, Says Rajnath Singh

Rajnath Singh warns of long conflicts ahead.

In a bold address at the Army War College in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh urged India’s armed forces to brace for prolonged conflicts, potentially lasting up to five years, amid a volatile global landscape. Speaking at the ‘Ran Samvad’ event, Singh emphasized the unpredictability of modern warfare, where conflicts can erupt suddenly and stretch indefinitely, necessitating unwavering preparedness across all scenarios.

Singh underscored a resolute stance on territorial integrity, declaring, “We do not want anyone’s land, but we are ready to go to any extent to protect our own.” The call to action came in the presence of top military leaders, including Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, Air Chief Marshal A P Singh, and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, signaling a unified front. He stressed that national security now demands a “whole-of-nation approach,” blending military might with societal resilience.

Highlighting recent successes, Singh praised Operation Sindoor as a testament to India’s growing self-reliance in defense technology. The operation, a swift and decisive strike against terrorists in Pakistan, showcased the prowess of indigenous platforms and equipment, catching adversaries off guard with its technological edge. “This is a striking demonstration of technology-driven warfare,” Singh noted, urging further strides toward self-sufficiency despite significant progress already made.

The minister’s remarks come at a critical juncture, with geopolitical tensions simmering along India’s borders. He called for sustained investment in military capabilities to ensure readiness for extended engagements, from two months to half a decade. Operation Sindoor’s success, he added, not only boosted morale but also reinforced the need for innovation in defense strategies.

As India navigates an uncertain world, Singh’s vision paints a future where the armed forces stand as an unyielding shield, prepared for any challenge. The address has sparked discussions on bolstering defense budgets and accelerating indigenous weapon development, with experts suggesting this could redefine India’s military doctrine in the coming years.
