India Emerges Resilient Amid Global Uncertainty, Says EAM Jaishankar
EAM Jaishankar says India resilient, growing, embracing digital, strengthening national capabilities.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Saturday said India has “solidly come through” the current turbulent global environment, managing both domestic and external challenges effectively. Speaking at the 15th Annual Convocation of IIM Raipur, Jaishankar highlighted India’s resilience amid crises such as the West Asian conflict and the Russia-Ukraine war, stressing the need for hedging, de-risking, and diversifying in an increasingly volatile world.
Addressing students and faculty, the EAM observed that structural changes in the global order are reshaping relative power and influence among nations. He noted that technological advances, energy shifts, military developments, and resource competition are creating new risks, often weaponized, requiring India to secure its interests strategically. “Everything today is being leveraged, if not actually weaponised. The world is then confronted with the prospect of securing itself in an increasingly volatile and unpredictable environment,” he said.
Jaishankar also pointed to India’s optimism and confidence, noting that inclusive growth, representative politics, and decisive leadership have laid the foundation for higher aspirations. “We have not only embraced the digital revolution enthusiastically, but actually purposefully applied it to our lives. Even many developed societies have not done so. Maybe it is also the awakening of a can-do spirit,” he added.

The minister stressed the importance of building national capabilities to achieve the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. He urged investments in critical capacities under India’s control while advocating trusted partnerships and diverse sourcing in areas where self-reliance is more challenging. “At the end of the day, there is no getting away from building robust national capabilities. It is the most effective way of de-risking and indeed even developing leverage,” Jaishankar said.
On the economic front, he underscored that India’s foreign policy aims to expand market access for domestic producers, secure critical resources and technologies, and protect citizens abroad. “It promotes Brand India and looks after Indians, whether travelling or living abroad, especially at moments of difficulty,” he said, highlighting the integration of economic and diplomatic priorities in India’s global strategy.
By combining domestic development with strategic foreign engagement, Jaishankar argued, India is better positioned than many countries to navigate uncertainty while advancing its economic, technological, and geopolitical objectives in a rapidly changing world.
