IIT Jodhpur Professor Arrested After Brawl With Director During Heated Meeting
Professor Deepak Kumar Arora allegedly attacked Director Avinash Agrawal, triggering FIRs and suspension.
Chaos erupted at IIT Jodhpur when Assistant Professor Deepak Kumar Arora allegedly assaulted Director Avinash Kumar Agrawal during a fiery departmental meeting on Wednesday. The confrontation, which turned physical, left both parties injured and has rocked the prestigious institution.
The clash began with a heated exchange over the Chemical Engineering department’s performance, with Agrawal criticising its lack of progress over the past five years. Arora retaliated, accusing the director of failing to lead the institute to any significant milestones. The argument escalated, culminating in Arora allegedly attacking Agrawal, injuring his foot.
Police arrested Arora, who was later released on bail but suspended by IIT Jodhpur’s administration. Both sides have filed counter-FIRs. Registrar Ankur Gupta, on behalf of Agrawal, accused Arora of assault, obstructing official duties, and using caste-based slurs. Arora, in turn, filed an FIR against Agrawal and his associates, alleging wrongful confinement and assault.
