IIM-Calcutta Rape Case: Rape Accused Freed on Bail

IIM-Calcutta student accused of rape granted interim bail.

An Alipore court in Kolkata granted interim bail on Saturday to an IIM-Calcutta student accused of raping a clinical psychologist on campus. The bail was set at a Rs 50,000 bond, with orders to surrender his passport and stay within the state without permission.

The complainant alleged in a July 11 FIR at Haridevpur police station that the accused invited her to his hostel for a counseling session and raped her. The student was in custody until the hearing.

The prosecution argued against bail, citing risks to the investigation, while the defense noted the complainant’s failure to record her statement and the absence of a medico-legal test. The decision has sparked debate over campus safety and justice.
