Horror in Bengaluru: 19-Year-Old Migrant Worker Kidnapped and Raped, Two in Custody

A chilling crime rocked Bengaluru in the early hours of Thursday, April 3, 2025, as a 19-year-old migrant worker from Bihar was kidnapped and raped near a railway station.

The young woman, who had arrived in the city with her family just days prior, was attacked while searching for food with her brother near K.R. Puram Railway Station. Two suspects have been arrested, but the incident has sent shockwaves through the community, spotlighting the vulnerability of migrant workers in urban hubs.

The victim and her family, hailing from Bihar, had traveled from Kerala to Bengaluru on April 1, aiming to connect with a relative in the city. Arriving at K.R. Puram at 1:13 AM on April 3, the exhausted group disembarked, and around 1:20 AM, the 19-year-old and her brother ventured toward Mahadevapura in search of food.

It was then, police say, that two men ambushed them. One assailant restrained the brother while the other dragged the woman to an isolated spot and assaulted her. Her screams alerted locals, who intervened, apprehending one suspect—identified as Ashif—after a thrashing and handing him over to the Mahadevapura police. A second suspect was nabbed soon after following intense questioning.

The police have charged the duo under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including kidnapping and rape, as the victim receives medical care. "We acted swiftly once the locals alerted us," a Mahadevapura police official said, noting the arrests came within hours of the crime, reported around 1:30 AM.

The investigation is ongoing to uncover any additional accomplices or motives, with authorities piecing together the family’s harrowing journey—guided from Ernakulam station in Kerala to Bengaluru by well-meaning strangers.
