Honey Trapped Gangster! Delhi Police's Innovative Sting Op
Gangster Lured by Fake Model Profile, Nabbed in Delhi Police Sting
A notorious gangster, Manoj, fell into a meticulously crafted Delhi Police trap on Friday after being wooed by a fake social media profile posing as a Mumbai-based model. The life convict and habitual parole-jumper, linked to the Gogi gang, was arrested in South Delhi’s Safdarjung Enclave, where he had arrived to meet his supposed online admirer.
“Manoj, a close aide of Deepak—a key figure in the 2023 Tihar Jail murder of rival gangster Tillu Tajpuria—was wanted in multiple cases of murder, kidnapping, and armed robbery across Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Aditya Gautam. Knowing Manoj’s social media activity, the Crime Branch devised a digital sting. Head constables Dinesh and Sukhbir created a fictitious profile of a glamorous actress, chatting with Manoj for weeks to earn his trust before luring him to the rendezvous point.
Upon arrival, police apprehended him, recovering two weapons and eight live cartridges. Hailing from Mahendergarh, Haryana, Manoj’s criminal saga began in 2005 with the kidnap and murder of businessman Rahul alongside friend Chamanlal, earning him a life sentence in 2013. In Tihar, he forged ties with Gogi gang members like Vicky Ramzanpur and Deepak, orchestrating crimes from prison.
Granted parole in 2014, Manoj absconded, resuming his spree with murders in Shahbad Dairy, carjackings in Narela and Alipur, and extortion in Bawana. Rearrested in 2015, he continued plotting crimes, escaping again during a 2023 parole. After violent robberies in Rajasthan, he was jailed in Bilada but secured release in December 2024 by concealing his record—until this sting ended his run. The arrest marks a significant win for Delhi Police in curbing the Gogi gang’s operations.
