Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday announced that state police had conducted simultaneous operations at three locations against alleged cattle smuggling, resulting in the seizure of 22 vehicles, rescue of 298 animals and arrest of 33 people. The operation was described as part of continued efforts by the Assam Police to prevent illegal transportation of cattle and target networks involved in the activity.
Sarma, in a post on social media platform X, warned that cattle smuggling would not be tolerated in Assam. He credited the police with carrying out coordinated action at multiple locations and said the operation reflected the state government’s resolve to curb the illegal transportation of cattle. The Chief Minister also emphasised the government’s stated objective of protecting cattle and strengthening enforcement against those involved.
According to the Chief Minister, 22 vehicles allegedly used in the smuggling operations were seized during the coordinated action. Police also rescued 298 animals and arrested 33 people in connection with the operations. The arrests and vehicle seizures are expected to support further investigation into the alleged networks involved in transporting the cattle, including efforts to establish their source and intended destination.

The simultaneous operations are part of broader enforcement efforts against illegal cattle transportation in the state. Sarma said the operation demonstrated the Assam government’s determination to prevent cattle smuggling and maintain stronger enforcement across the state. He also praised the coordinated action by the Assam Police, indicating that enforcement agencies would continue taking action against people found involved in illegal cattle transportation.
