Hanamkonda Triple Murder: Husband Arrested After Staging Family’s ‘Drowning’ at Swimming Pool

Telangana man kills pregnant wife, two daughters over desire for a male child; police investigate.

A pregnant woman and her two young daughters were killed by the woman’s husband in Warangal city on Wednesday night, police said, in a case that initially appeared to be accidental drowning. The victims have been identified as 26-year-old Farhat and her daughters Umera, 8, and Ayesha, 6.

The family owned a swimming pool near the Warangal-Khammam National Highway, which they rented out to visitors as their main source of income. On Wednesday night, Farhat and her daughters reportedly went near the pool with other family members. Minutes later, they were found in the water and rushed to MGM Hospital in Warangal, where doctors declared them dead.

Initially, Farhat’s husband, Azharuddin, claimed that his wife and daughters had slipped into the pool and drowned. However, police investigations revealed inconsistencies in his statements. Authorities also tracked Azharuddin’s phone location at the time of the incident and found that CCTV cameras at the pool had been switched off prior to the deaths, raising suspicion of foul play.

Further inquiries indicated that the motive may have been linked to the couple’s unborn child. Farhat, who was pregnant with her third child, reportedly refused her husband’s demand for an abortion because he wanted a boy. Sources told police that Azharuddin allegedly forced Farhat and their daughters into the pool, leading to their deaths.

Farhat’s father, Ali, had previously lodged a complaint with police regarding repeated arguments between his daughter and son-in-law over the children and her pregnancy. “My daughter was under pressure for many days. We do not believe this was an accident,” he said. Authorities have registered a murder case and formed special teams to trace Azharuddin.

Police are continuing their investigation to confirm the sequence of events and apprehend Azharuddin. The case has drawn attention to domestic disputes and gender-based pressures that can escalate into fatal violence, highlighting broader social concerns in the region.
