Gurugram Shocker: Did Father’s Pride or Rage Drive the Killing? Cops Doubt Taunt Claims
Haryana Police question Deepak Yadav’s claim that he killed his daughter Radhika over villagers’ taunts about living off her income, citing his substantial wealth.
25-year-old national-level tennis player Radhika Yadav was allegedly shot dead by her father, Deepak Yadav, at their Gurugram home in Sector 57. Deepak confessed to firing five shots from his licensed .32 bore revolver, three hitting Radhika in the back while she cooked breakfast, claiming he was driven by villagers’ taunts that he lived off her earnings and remarks questioning her character. However, Haryana Police are skeptical, noting Deepak’s monthly rental income of ₹15 lakh from multiple properties, questioning why such taunts would arise.
Police sources highlight Deepak’s short temper, often directed at his family, as a potential factor. They doubt the taunt narrative, with one officer telling India Today TV, “So why would anyone taunt him like that?” given his wealth. Deepak had supported Radhika’s tennis career, investing ₹2 crore and traveling with her to tournaments, but opposed her running a tennis academy after a shoulder injury ended her playing career. Her refusal to shut it down, coupled with tensions over her social media activity, including a music video and Instagram reels, reportedly fueled disputes.
The killing was premeditated, with Deepak sending his son Dheeraj to buy milk to be alone with Radhika. Radhika’s mother, Manju, present during the incident, claimed she mistook gunshots for a pressure cooker blast due to a fever and refused to give a statement. Police are probing her possible knowledge of the plan.
