Ganga Expressway: 594-km Corridor Reduces Travel Time from 12 Hours to 6
PM Modi inaugurates India's largest Ganga Motorway tomorrow, slashing travel time from 12 to 6 hours.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the 594-km Ganga Motorway on Wednesday, marking the launch of one of India’s largest greenfield motorway projects. The corridor is being positioned as a major infrastructure milestone for Uttar Pradesh, aimed at improving connectivity across western and eastern parts of the state. The foundation stone for the project was laid in December 2021, and the opening comes ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Developed by the Uttar Pradesh Motorways Industrial Development Authority, the six-lane motorway — designed for future expansion to eight lanes — has been constructed at an estimated cost of ₹36,230 crore. Officials expect the route to significantly cut travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj from the current 10 to 12 hours to around 6 to 8 hours, providing faster road access for passengers and freight movement.
The motorway begins at Bijauli village in Meerut district and ends at Judapur Dandu village in Prayagraj district. Along its route, it passes through 12 districts: Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj. The corridor is expected to improve regional connectivity and support industrial and agricultural transport networks.

The Ganga Motorway is also seen as a strategic project in Uttar Pradesh’s broader economic development plans. Large-scale road corridors such as this are intended to attract investment, create logistics hubs, and stimulate employment in surrounding districts. With its formal launch, the state adds another major motorway to its expanding high-speed road network, strengthening links between key urban and rural centres.
