Four insurgents from NRFM, PLA, and KCP arrested in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district amid intensified security operations.
Security forces in Manipur have arrested four valley-based insurgents from Tengnoupal district, which shares an unfenced border with Myanmar, as part of an intensified crackdown on militant activity, officials said on Friday. The arrests were made in Yangoubung village under the jurisdiction of Moreh police station.
The detained militants belong to banned outfits, including the National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM), People’s Liberation Army (PLA), and Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP). The individuals identified are PLA cadre Keisham Sumanta Meitei (25) from Imphal West, NRFM member Angom Somorjit Singh alias Nongsaba (32) from Kakching, KCP cadre Yumnam Naoba Singh alias Shinsangamba (26) from Imphal East, and KCP member Khundrakpam Shyamson Meitei alias Manganleiba (25) from Thoubal district.
Officials stated that the militants were involved in abductions and the forcible collection of money from traders, contractors, government employees, and ordinary citizens. Their activities have contributed to insecurity in the valley, prompting a coordinated response from both central and state security agencies.

Authorities have intensified area domination drives and search operations across multiple districts, particularly in fringe and mixed-population zones. A total of 117 nakas (checkpoints) have been established across Manipur’s valley and hill districts to restrict the movement of suspicious elements. Security personnel are also providing convoy protection along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37), especially for trucks carrying essential commodities.
Strict safety measures remain in place in sensitive areas to ensure secure passage for vehicles and citizens. Manipur Police have urged the public not to believe rumours or circulate unverified videos and audio clips on social media, warning that sharing such content could attract legal action.
In a further appeal, authorities encouraged citizens to return any looted arms, ammunition, or explosives to the nearest police station or security forces. The police emphasized that community cooperation is crucial to sustaining security operations and preventing further insurgent activity.
