Four tourists from Bengaluru were found dead inside a locked room at Digambar Jain Dharamshala in Rajgir, Nalanda district, Bihar. The victims included two women, and the cause of death remains unknown, prompting a full-scale investigation by local police and forensic teams. Authorities were alerted to the incident after dharamshala staff noticed a foul smell emanating from the room.
According to the dharamshala register, the tourists had booked the room on January 31. They had reportedly visited Nepal before arriving in Rajgir and were planning to continue their journey to Pawapuri in Nalanda district. Local residents last saw the group roaming the town market two days prior to the discovery.
Police and administrative officials reached the site immediately. A forensic team from Patna has been called in to examine the scene, and all belongings in the room are being scrutinized to determine any potential evidence related to the deaths. Investigators are considering all possibilities, including natural causes, accidental poisoning, or foul play.

Rajgir is a prominent Jain pilgrimage center and Siddha Kshetra, known for its association with Lord Mahavira, who spent 14 Chaturmas there. It is also the birthplace of the 20th Tirthankara, Muni Suvratnath, and houses over 26 ancient temples spread across five holy hills, drawing thousands of pilgrims annually.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm while the investigation continues. Meanwhile, the Bihar government is monitoring the case closely, with instructions to ensure thorough inquiry and quick identification of the cause of death to prevent public panic in the pilgrimage hub.
