Former Miss Pune Dies Under Suspicious Circumstances; Dowry Death Case Filed Against Husband
Former Miss Pune found dead; dowry death case filed against husband.
Fresh details have emerged in the death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma, whose family has accused her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment, mental cruelty, and physical abuse. Twisha, a former beauty pageant winner and social media content creator originally associated with Pune and living in Noida, was found hanging at her marital home in Bhopal on May 12, just five months after her marriage to advocate Samarth Singh.
According to Twisha’s family, she had spoken to her mother around 10 p.m. on the night of the incident and allegedly described the harassment she was facing at her husband’s home. Her father, Navnidhi Sharma, said he had also spoken with his daughter for nearly half an hour shortly before her death. Family members claim Twisha had been under severe emotional stress and repeatedly complained about mistreatment linked to dowry demands and tensions within the household.
The post-mortem examination conducted at AIIMS Bhopal reportedly stated that the cause of death was “antemortem hanging by ligature” and also noted multiple antemortem injuries on different parts of her body. The report further revealed that Twisha had undergone a medical termination of pregnancy approximately a week before her death. The findings intensified allegations from her family, who claim she was subjected to sustained pressure and abuse before the incident.

Twisha’s brother, Major Sharma, alleged that his sister had wanted to continue her pregnancy but was allegedly forced into terminating it under pressure from her husband and in-laws. He claimed that Twisha’s character was repeatedly questioned and that allegations were made regarding the legitimacy of the unborn child. According to the family, the emotional pressure surrounding the pregnancy deeply affected her mental health in the days leading up to her death.
Madhya Pradesh Police have registered an FIR against Samarth Singh and his mother, Giribala Singh, under sections related to dowry death and dowry harassment. While Giribala Singh has reportedly secured anticipatory bail, Samarth Singh remains absconding. Authorities have formed a special investigation team to locate him and continue the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Twisha’s death.
Meanwhile, Twisha Sharma’s family has staged protests outside the residence of the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, demanding a fresh post-mortem examination at AIIMS Delhi and the transfer of legal proceedings outside the state. The case has triggered widespread public attention and renewed discussions around dowry harassment, domestic abuse, and the treatment of women within marital homes, particularly in cases involving alleged social and legal influence.
